New Delhi: In the midst of a stalled monsoon session, NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule is set to lead a delegation of her party MPs to meet PM Narendra Modi on Monday, regarding Maharashtra-specific issues, even as its timing has drawn attention in political circles.

Her stance on key pending legislation signalled calibrated positioning by the party. On proposed FCRA amendments, Sule told ET that NCP(SP) opposes the bill "in its current form" and wants it either withdrawn or referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee. On the politically-sensitive Constitution amendment proposing the women quota linked with delimitation, Sule struck a cautious note, avoiding any firm commitment.

"The bill is not out yet," she said. Her party had earlier extended "in-principle support" to the women's reservation framework passed before 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Any final position, she indicated, would be taken after consultations with INDIA bloc constituents.

The meeting assumes significance as the government is exploring ways to build wider political consensus on its planned constitution amendment bill, which requires a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
