Supreme Court wonders if Modi govenment will sit on Lokpal for rest of its term
NEW DELHIL: The Supreme Court on Wednesday wondered whether the Modi government would take the rest of its two and a half to three years to bring the Lokpal Act into effect.

The Modi government is yet to bring a small change replacing the Leader of Opposition with the leader of the largest opposition party in the house. This has stalled the law.

The government insists that the law was brought in in a hurry and had several loopholes which need to be plugged for the law to be effective.

That will take time, the Attorney General said. But the court said it was concerned over the delay in giving effect to a law designed to bring in probity in public life. "Will you take the rest of your term to change this? It is after all a law designed to bring in probity in public life."

"You are claiming that you are interested in cleansing the system." The court then asked the government to get back to it with a response on when it proposes to do it. The government will have to re pond by December 7.
