New Delhi: The Supreme Court is experimenting with limited live webcasting and an e-filing software which will obviate the need to travel to court to file cases, chairman of the top court ecommittee Justice DY Chandrachud said on Monday.

For now, the plan is to restrict the webcast’s accessibility via a password protected web link.

Though there have been consistent demands to telecast court proceedings for awhile now and a court ruling agreeing to such a move, the process has moved slowly. The court currently does not have a system of recording of transcripts of court proceedings.

Not every document in a court case can be accessed online unlike other legal jurisdictions. Justice Chandrachud also revealed that the court was at an advanced stage of the trial of an e-filing software.

This will be available round the clock once the trials are over and will do away with the need for clerks to visit the court physically to file a case.
