NEW DELHI: The apex court has stayed a show-cause notice issued by the ministry of environment and forests to the Animal Welfare Board for being out of sync with the government on jallikattu.

The law mandates the board to protect animals from cruelty and the board did that when it resisted any relaxation on the court ban on the harmful practice. This was in conflict with the Centre’s desire to ease the rigour of the ban ahead of polls in Tamil Nadu.
