Supreme Court stays bail to Jammu & Kashmir terror fund organiser
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday stayed an order passed by the Delhi High Court on Thursday directing that Kashmir resident Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watali, accused of raising funds for terror outfits, be released on bail.

The NIA, which is investigating the case, had rushed to the top court objecting to the bail. It was mentioned by advocate R.Balasubramanian.

The AG appeared for the NIA to speak on the NIA’s behalf later. A three-judge bench led by CJI Dipak Misra also issued notices on the NIA plea to the accused and listed the case for hearing on Sept 26, 2018. He is accused along with 11others on serious and grave charges under Sections 121 (waging war), 121A and 120B (conspiracy) of the IPC and Sections 13, 16, 17, 18, 20, 38, 39 and 40 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.


He was taken into custody on Aug 17, 2017, and has been in custody since. A chargesheet was filed in the case on Jan 18, 2018, but the charges are yet to be framed by a Patiala House court special judge.

Next hearing of the case is on Oct 10, 2018. As per the chargesheet he had received money from Hafiz Saeed and other sources in Pakistan.
