Supreme Court stays Allahabad High Court order seeking details of withdrawn cases in Uttar Pradesh

A vacation bench of justices A K Sikri and U U Lalit granted interim relief to the Akhilesh Yadav government which had filed an appeal against the High Court order.

The High Court had observed that state was withdrawing prosecution while keeping in mind "the class consideration".
It was alleged that cases lodged against persons of a particular class were being withdrawn by the state government.
Senior advocate Vijay Bahadur Singh, appearing for the UP government, said the state is duly empowered under the court of criminal procedure to withdraw a criminal case.
