Supreme Court says no judicial work for Justice Karnan in Chennai
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday directed that no judicial work be allotted to Madras High Court judge CS Karnan in Chennai as he has been transferred to Kolkata.

A day earlier, Karnan had said he would stay his own transfer. The threat of staying the transfer, if carried out, would be unprecedented in the court's history.

Karnan had earlier accused the Chief Justice there of discriminating against him on grounds of caste and threatened to invoke the SC-ST Act against him.

On February 14, he told the Chief Justice's personal secretary that he would stay his own transfer order issued by the CJI on February 12. This was brought to the attention of Justices JS Khehar and R Banumathi, who directed that no more work be assigned to him in Chennai (earlier known as Madras).
