Negotiated settlement desirable: Supreme Court on Ayodhya dispute

The Hindu parties to the case including the Uttar Pradesh government said that any mediation on the issue was not "advisable or prudent".

Ayodhya case: SC reserves order on court-monitored mediation to resolve dispute
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved orders on whether the contentious Ayodhya dispute should be referred to mediation.

A five-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said that it would pronounce the order "very shortly".

The Hindu parties to the case including the Uttar Pradesh government said that any mediation on the issue was not "advisable or prudent".


They said that it was a matter of faith and hence there was no compromise was possible.

The bench which also includes next in line to be CJI, justice S.A Bobde who said that they were conscious of the gravity of the issue and its impact on the body polity but an attempt at a negotiated settlement was desirable.

The Muslim parties led by the Sunni Central WAQF board did not oppose any mediation suggestion.
