Supreme Court quashes UP govt's Ghaziabad land acquisition notice

SC quashed UP govt notifications for acquiring around 300 acres of farm land in Ghaziabad district for setting up a leather industry.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today quashed the Uttar Pradesh government notifications for acquiring around 300 acres of farm land in Ghaziabad district for setting up a leather industry.

A bench of justices G.S. Singhvi and H.L. Dattu set aside the state government's notifications, issued in 2006 and 2008, for acquiring around 250 and 50 acres of land respectively.

The court passed the order on petitions filed by villagers and farmers challenging the state government's decision to acquire their land for setting up the industry.
