New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dubbed the Covid-19 situation in Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and West Bengal 'deplorable', with the living lying uncared for alongside the dead in hospitals that are overwhelmed by the surge in patients. The bench also lamented the lack of adequate testing in Delhi even as the number of Covid-19 cases skyrocketed in the capital.

A three-judge bench led by Justice Ashok Bhushan issued notices to the central as well as the five state governments, demanding answers from them by next Wednesday. Chief Justice of India SA Bobde had taken up this case on his own and assigned it to this bench.
