Supreme Court orders Tejashwi Yadav to vacate govt bungalow for deputy CM, fines him Rs 50,000

The Bihar government had ordered Yadav to vacate his bungalow to make way for Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi.

SC dismisses Tejashwi Yadav's plea against the Bihar govt's decision
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday lashed out at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for moving the court against a Bihar government order asking him to vacate the bungalow allotted to him in Patna when he was deputy chief minister, and imposed a Rs 50,000 cost on him while dismissing his plea.

“What is this luxury of a petition? Are you deputy CM now?” Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi asked Yadav’s lawyer, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi. CJI Gogoi was sitting alongside justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna on Friday.

Yadav was deputy CM of Bihar under the grand alliance government led by chief minister Nitish Kumar. The RJD has since lost power in the state.

The Nitish government is now in office with the BJP as an ally. The state government had asked Yadav to swap his bungalow with the bungalow of the current deputy CM Sushil Modi.

Yadav is now the leader of opposition and has been allotted another bungalow. However, he has been reluctant to give up his existing bungalow as he says it is more suitable for him. He has instead challenged the government decision. He lost first before the single judge of the high court on October 6, 2018.
