Supreme Court okays 69 per cent jobs quota for Tamil Nadu

SC said 69% quota for jobs & admission should continue for 1 year.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has given the Government of Tamil Nadu a major boost by ordering that 69 per cent quota for jobs and admissions should continue for a year.

The apex court has instructed the Tamil Nadu Backward Class Commission to study the quota introduced in Tamil Nadu and see if it is justified during this period.

The Commission has been also asked to consider the exceptions provided under the Mandal judgement - that in certain circumstances, the 50 per cent cap on quota can be exceeded.

The state government has to now justify the quota to the Commission.
