Supreme court lifts curbs on Italian ambassador Daniele Mancini
NEW DELHI: The supreme court today lifted the curbs imposed on Italian ambassador Daniele Mancini after it was told that two italian marines, who are to be tried for shooting dead two Indian fishermen off the Kerala coast, had returned from Italy.

The duo was supposed to return by March 22, 2013, but the italian government's declaration just days before the deadline that they would not return had sparked off a diplomatic crisis.

The top court, which had permitted them to go home on February 22, had then ordered Mancini not to leave the country for failing to stick by his assurance to the court to ensure their return.

Today, a bench, led by the CJI, recalled the order imposing the curbs after it was told that the marines, Salvatore Girone and Massimilano Latore, had returned to face trial.

The top court listed the case for hearing again on April 16 when the Central govt would inform the court about the progress in setting up the special court to try them.
