Supreme Court issues contempt notice to Nageswara Rao in connection with muzaffarpur probe officer transfer

The supreme court on Thursday issued contempt of court notices to m. Nageswara rao, the former interim CBI chief and now joint director, and S. Bhasuram the legal advisor in charge prosecutions for transferring the officer in charge of the team probing the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape and murder case.

IPS officer A.K. Sharma was transferred to CRPF without court permission despite an embargo on this. Rao had made several transfers while he was at the helm of the CBI affairs as interim chief. A bench led by CJI Ranjan Gogoi asked him and all officers who processed and dealt with the transfer to appear in court on Feb 12.

They will explain why they did not inform the cabinet committee on appointments and transfers of the court embargo. CJI Gogoi said that he expects officers to serve the law and not babus and politicians. CJI Gogoi had earlier transferred trial of the cases from Bihar to a Delhi court.


A minister and her husband and a self styled journalist who ran the shelter homes are on trial among the 21 accused.
