Supreme Court asks Karti Chidambaram to appear before CBI on August 23
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court asked Karti Chidambaram to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation on August 23 for questioning in connection with a case alleging irregularities in the approval of a foreign investment proposal granted to INX Media during his father PC Chidambaram’s tenure as finance minister. The court said Friday that a lookout notice issued by the CBI against Karti Chidambaram, effectively preventing him from travelling abroad, would stay for now and his plea to lift it will be heard after August 23.

At the insistence of Karti’s lawyer Gopal Subramanium, a bench comprising Chief Justice of India JS Khehar and DY Chandrachud permitted a lawyer to accompany him to the CBI headquarters here. The lawyer will, however, not be allowed within hearing range of the questioning. The CBI has lodged an FIR against Chidambaram junior for allegedly receiving bribes through some companies in return for getting the FIPB to approve a proposal for INX Media.
