The SC on Monday asked the Bihar DGP to appear in the court personally on November 27 to explain about the state police’s failure to nab ex-minister Manju Verma, a key accused in the Muzaffarpur orphanage horror case. Verma’s husband is also a key accused in the case.

They have been accused of illegally possessing arms and ammunition. The SC has since ordered a CBI probe into the horror story. Verma’s husband surrendered a few days back after absconding for months.

The CBI claimed the main accused Brajesh Thakur was highly influential and was found with a phone in his cell in jail. On Monday, the bench led by justice Madan B Lokur demanded to know why the police had failed to nab Manju Verma. Justice Lokur demanded that the DGP personally appear in the court on November 27 and explain the reasons. “Fantastic, a Cabinet minister is on the run… absconding and no one knows where.
