IMPHAL: In a shocking incident former chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Kalikho Pul has committed suicide at the official residence of the Chief Minister in Itanagar. His supporters hit the streets.

Hundreds of protesters came out after the news of Pul’s death broke out. A group of people including attacked the official residence of Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein. Properties and vehicles were vandalised.

Mein said that Pul hanged in a ceiling fan inside the Chief Minister’s Residence. Pul was staying at the official residence of the Chief Minister.

A police official told ET, “Investigation is on, police has found a dairy from his house.”

Pul became the chief minister of the state in February with support of BJP. Arunachal Pradesh cabinet has announced three day state mourning. Pul’s body is sent to his native village Anjaw.

According to state cabinet statement, “ The cabinet is shocked by the news that our senior colleague and a seasoned leader Pul took this extreme step of ending life.”

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Shakuntala Gamlin said that the law and order situation is under control in Arunachal capital Itanagar. There were instances of vandalism.

“There is no law and order problem in the state as of now. Initially there were some reports that a group of people has vandalized some of the buildings and vehicles. However, the government has deployed the central para military forces to contain the situation,” she added

Chief Secretary has asked people to exercise restrain and assured that the police would do whatever is required legally to investigate the matter relating to the death of Pul.
