NEW DELHI: Super Bazar Karamchari Dalit Sangh, the workers union in the shopping cooperative, Super Bazar, is likely to seek a Supreme Court direction asking the Union government to declare the name of the successful bidder for the takeover of the ailing cooperative.
Earlier on July 12, the apex court had directed the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies and official liquidator to invite fresh bids within four weeks after the consortium of Indian Potash and Indian Labour Cooperative Society, which was keen to revive the shopping cooperative, fell apart.
Though the bids were opened on August 3, there has not been any further development.
Three organisations responded in view of the apex court's direction and a consortium headed by media group Dainik Bhaskar had offered to pay Rs 315 crore, the highest among the three bids.
According to sources, the media group bid at Rs 315 crore in collaboration with four others -- Writer Publishers Ltd, Bhaskar Industries, Bhaskar Exxoils, all Bhaskar group companies, Ramesh Chandra Agarwal and Pawan Agarwal, the promoters of the group.
The media group's bid is followed by IPL at Rs 265 crore. National Cooperative Consumer Federation of India along with Panatloon Retail has offered Rs 250 crore.
According to the communication sent to the Secretary and to the Economic Adviser, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the Central Registar of Cooperative Societies and others, the workers union through its president Jagdish Chaudhary has requested the government to expedite the matter and declare the successful bidder in view of "starving employees who have not been paid their salaries since May 16, 2003".
