Sunil Mittal, Ravi Ruia, B Muthuraman, Naveen Jindal in PM's entourage to Myanmar

NEW DELHI: Bharti Enterprises' Sunil Mittal, Essar's Ravi Ruia, Tata's B Muthuraman and JSPL's Naveen Jindal are likely to be among the industry leaders who will accompany Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his three-day Myanmar visit beginning May 27.

The 15-member Indian Inc delegation would be jointly led by Mittal and Kanoria Chemicals and Industries' Chairman Rajya Vardhan Kanoria, official sources said today.

Punj Lloyd's Atul Punj, Export Import Bank of India's CMD T C A Ranganathan and Venu Srinivasan of TVS Motor Company are likely to be part of the industry delegation.

"The composition of the delegation is reflective of the interest of Indian industry in engaging Myanmar in various areas of trade and investments," they said.

Indian investment in Myanmar is not substantial, but the keenness and curiosity to set up bases in the resurgent nation, following a rise of its iconic pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, is quite evident.

The bilateral trade between India and Myanmar was a mere $ 1.35 billion in 2010-11. India mainly imports pulses from Myanmar and exports items such pharmaceuticals.

India has operationalised its Free Trade Agreement with the Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN), of which Myanmar is a leading member.

The Prime Minister would make a three-day visit to Myanmar, beginning May 27, giving a push to the bilateral economic and political relations.
