Sunder Raman to continue managing IPL, says SC
NEW DELHI: IPL chief operating officer, Sunder Raman, facing allegations of covering-up charges of betting and match-fixing against BCCI chief N Srinivasan's son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan, will continue to manage IPL 2014, the Supreme Court ruled , while refusing to interfere with the functioning of the league which gets underway tonight.

A two-judge bench comprising of Justice AK Patnaik and FMI Kalifullah passed the order during a hearing on an appeal filed by the Cricket Association of Bihar demanding a CBI probe into the allegations of match-fixing and betting during the last season of IPL.

The bench also dismissed demands by Srinivasan, who was replaced by Sunil Gavaskar to deal with the affairs of IPL in the wake of similar allegations against him, to restore his post. "The allegation is that he knew all this was happening," Justice Patnaik said.

"He cannot be associated with the BCCI in any way while a probe is on into the allegations, " Patnaik said. The bench asked the BCCI to "appoint persons of integrity" to probe the allegations of match-fixing and betting or face an independent probe.

Nalini Chidambaram , lawyer representing the Cricket Association of Bihar, protested against such an inquiry arguing it would be a farce.
