Prateek Yadav, son of Samajwadi Party boss Mulayam Singh Yadav, has staked claim to a Lok Sabha seat, as he prepares to join seven others from the family in politics.

LUCKNOW: Prateek Yadav, son of Samajwadi Party boss Mulayam Singh Yadav, has staked claim to a Lok Sabha seat, as he prepares to join seven others from the family in politics.

Supporters of Prateek demanded on Saturday that he be fielded from Azamgarh. The party has decided to field panchayati raj minister Balram Yadav in Azamgarh, which is dominated by the Muslim and Yadav communities.

Mulayam's elder son Akhilesh is the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Akhilesh's wife Dimple is an MP from Kannauj.

Prateek's supporters said if not Azamgarh, he should be made the candidate from Farrukhabad. Prateek has not revealed publicly his political ambitions.

Prateek has completed an MBA from Leeds University. The other members of the Yadav family in politics are SP general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav, his son Akshay who will contest from Ferozabad, PWD minister Shivpal Yadav and Badayun MP Dharmendra Yadav.
