Sukhbir Singh Badal
Sukhbir Singh Badal has been re-elected as the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) during the party's electoral meeting held on Saturday.

This marks another term for Badal, who will replace Balwinder Singh Bhunder, the current working president of the party.

Badal's nomination for the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) was put forward by the party's working president, Balwinder Singh Bhundar, and supported by party leader Paramjit Singh Sarna.

The election session took place at the Teja Singh Samundari hall within the Sri Darbar Sahib complex. Notable attendees included Badal's wife, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, along with former ministers Bikram Singh Majithia, Daljit Singh Cheema, and senior leader Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal.

On November 16, 2024, Badal resigned from his position as party president after being declared 'tankhaiya' (guilty of religious misconduct) by the Akal Takht due to "mistakes" made by the SAD and its government from 2007 to 2017.

In January, the party's working committee accepted his resignation. Subsequently, the SAD initiated a new membership drive.
