Suicide bomber kills three at northwest Pakistan police station

A suicide bomber rammed his explosives laden jeep at a police station in northwestern Pakistan killing at least three people and wounding 14 others.

PESHAWAR: A suicide bomber on Saturday rammed his explosives laden jeep at a police station in northwestern Pakistan killing at least three people and wounding 14 others, police said.

The attack was in Chaharbagh district of Swat valley where Taliban militants have recently stepped up attacks against security forces.

"Three people, two policemen and a civilian, were killed and 14 others, mostly policemen, were injured," police official Mohibullah Khan said.

"The suicide bomber rammed his explosives filled jeep into the police building."

Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan said the militants claimed responsibility for the suicide attack and other bombings in the valley on Saturday.

Separately a remote controlled bomb exploded at an abandoned police station in Bari Kot district, killing an eight-year old girl and a man and injuring four others, police official Ali Rehmat said.

In another incident, a young girl was killed and five others injured when a mortar shell hit their home in Kabal district, a local police official said.

A curfew has been imposed in the violence-hit district, officials said.
