ISLAMABAD: A suicide bomber rammed his motorcycle into a bus carrying Pakistan Air Force personnel in northeastern Punjab province on Thursday killing at least five persons and injuring 40 others.

The bus which was taking the air force personnel to a radar facility was attacked in Mitha Masoom area on the Faisalabad-Sargodha road, Sargodha District Police Office Waseem Ahmed Sayal told reporters.

Five persons were killed in the blast which set the bus on fire, he said.

At least three school children were among the injured. They were in a school bus which was also hit by the blast.

This was the second suicide attack on Pakistan's armed forces in three days. On Tuesday, a bomber blew himself up near the residence of Gen Tariq Majid, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, in the high-security cantonment area in Rawalpindi.

Rawalpindi and Islamabad have been on red alert since October 27 following intelligence reports that suicide bombers had entered the twin cities to carry out attacks.
