Suchitra Sen's health improves, responding partially

KOLKATA: Ailing actress Suchitra Sen's health is stable as she has partially responded to intermittent non-invasive ventilation.

A medical bulletin issued by Belle Vue Clinic where the 82-year-old actress is admitted said oxygen saturation level had improved compared to the previous days.

"However her oxygen saturation needs continuous monitoring. Her heart rate and blood pressure continues to remain stable. She has had light breakfast. She remains conscious but little weak," it said.

Her condition had deteriorated on Friday after which she was given non-invasive ventilation through a mask at irregular intervals for oxygen support.

Doctors attending to her said she had partially responded to intermittent non-invasive ventilation now and was showing slight signs of improvement.

She had also been given physiotherapy at a private Intensive Care Unit cabin.

A five-member medical board at the super-speciality hospital led by Dr Subrata Maitra was monitoring her health round-the-clock.

Sen who has kept herself away from public eye for the last three decades was the first Indian actress to win the best actress award internationally at the Moscow Film Festival.

She had starred in memorable Hindi and Bengali films like 'Devdas', 'Aandhi', 'Saat Paake Bandha', 'Agnipariksha', 'Saptopadi' and 'Deep Jele Jai'.
