Subrata Roy: Have highest regard for Sebi
MUMBAI: In an effort to put behind the controversy created by his recent statement in Kolkata about Sebi being a ‘sarkari gunda’, Subrata Roy, chairman of the Sahara group on Friday clarified that he has the highest regard for the institution and his statement was misconstrued. Roy also said that it was a misjudgment on his part to condemn the market regulator.

“As a responsible citizen of the country, I have very high regards for the regulatory authorities of our country,” Roy told TOI. “Every person will agree that certain individuals do not maintain proper dignity of institutions and forget their duties, and also forget that rights are given to perform duties. So at times, not only me, but I have seen through media that many people from different walks of life condemn institutions. It happens mainly due to a certain individual in that institution ,” he said.

Roy also extended his apologies to the market regulator. “Sebi is aggrieved of a news item, based on my press conference in Kolkata. The meaning and spirit of my statements have been misconstrued . However, if a respectable institution like Sebi is feeling aggrieved and bad, then I extend my unconditional apologies,” Roy said.
