Subramanian Swamy calls for cancellation of KPMG's aviation adviser contract
WASHINGTON: Complaining of conflict of interests, a senior BJP leader has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cancel the contract to consultancy firm KPMG which is helping the government in drafting a new civil aviation policy.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has alleged that KPMG was "deliberately chosen" to support the case made out by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to abolish the 5/20 rule to favour some new airlines.

The 5/20 rule bars domestic airlines from flying overseas unless they have completed five years of domestic flying and have a fleet of 20 aircraft.

"KPMG is now the advisor to the Ministry of Civil Aviation to draft a policy for the benefit of foreign airlines at the cost of national interest," Swamy said.
