Submit status report in MNREGA scam, HC tells Uttar Pradesh government, CBI

LUCKNOW: The Allahabad High Court today directed the Uttar Pradesh government and CBI to submit status report as well as action taken report in the multi-crore MNREGA scam on December 17.

The order was passed by a division bench of Justice Devi Prasad Singh and Justice Ashok Pal Singh on a PIL listed for compliance of earlier orders passed on it.

"Corrupts are real enemies of the country and traitors. There should be zero tolerance against corruption. Investigation and trial should be quick and effective," the Lucknow bench observed.

The court directed CBI to take into possession entire record and do needful to conclude investigation in terms of letter and sprit of the judgment passed in this regard.

The court also directed the Principal Secretary (Home) and the DGP to ensure that entire record be handed over to CBI within three weeks.

Earlier, the CBI counsel informed the court that records of all districts had not been provided to the agency by the respective district magistrates.

Counsel for CBI also submitted that related material had not been provided by the state government to the agency.

The court directed that the matter be listed on December 17 for next hearing.

CBI is conducting inquiry and investigation of scam in the districts of UP as per the court's earlier order and judgement.
