JALPAIGURI: Hinting he was not happy about GTA, GNLF chief Subash Ghising today said that sixth schedule amendment bill can meet aspirations of the hill people.

"Don't question me about GTA. It is in no better situation. It is here today but may cease to exist tomorrow," Ghising told reporters here.

The Sixth Schedule of the Constitution provides special status to certain areas in the North Eastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura in terms of administrative and functional autonomy.

The GNLF supremo, who today shifted from his rented place in Jalpaiguri town to Matigara in Siliguri, said sixth schedule amendment bill can meet aspirations of the hill people in the present juncture.

"I wish to visit Delhi in near future to have first hand idea about the fate of the schedule amendment bill. In the present circumstances that is the alternative, not GTA," the former DGHC chief said.

Ghising said being away from hills, it would be more suitable for him to keep a tab on the situation in Darjeeling from a place like Siliguri than Jalpaiguri.
