IMPHAL: The student wing of the Joint Committee on Inner Line permit System has called a 48-hour general strike in Manipur, starting from six pm today, to protest against alleged police excesses against girl students.

The convenor of the student wing, Oinam Nandababu, said the general strike was called also to protest against the government's failure to take action against policemen involved in the alleged killing of colleague Sapam Robinhood.

The convenor alleged that the remains of Sapam Robinhood had been lying inside the mortuary of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences hospital since July 8 and religious rites for his creamation were also pending.
