Students asked not to participate in protests during school hour: Assam assembly committee

Chairman of the committee, Mrinal Saikia told ET, “We have asked the director of elementary education and higher education to ensure that students during the school hours are not participating in protest programmes.”

He said that head of institutions is asked to comply with the committee’s recommendations.


In Assam students bodies often use school students in protest rallies. Recently large number of students in school uniform participated in different places in student bodies-led protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Lorin Jyoti Gogoi, general secretary of All Assam Students Union (Aasu) said that protesting is a democratic right and no one can take away the same from the students’ community.

He said, “If the committee is so concerned about students’ welfare, it must ensure that schools are not used during elections.”
