Strike of Central govt employees

One-day strike call given by a Central govt officers and workers' body in support of their 12-point charter of demands.

MUMBAI: A one-day strike call was on Tuesday given by a Central government officers and workers' body in support of their 12 point charter of demands.

The strike was "total" in offices of Income Tax, Accountant General, Postal Department, Pay and Account offices, Textile commissioner, Customs etc, the Cordination Committee of Confederation of Central government Employees and Workers claimed.

Their demands included scrapping of new pension scheme, to grant interim relief of minimum Rs 1,000, to remove ban on recruitment, stop downsizing of workforce, etc.

The union general secretary R P Singh claimed about one lakh central government employees and officers participated in the strike all over Maharashtra.

The strike also received support in cities like Pune, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Solapur, Amravati, Aurangabad, the body claimed in a release.

The leaders of the confederation warned the government that if the government did not settle their demands, the employees will launch more vigorous agitations, including an indefinite strike, the release added.

Meanwhile, according to a report from Nasik employees in Jalgaon and Dhule also participated in the strike.
