Strike affects normal life in Manipur
Normal life was paralysed across Manipur in the 48-hour general strike that began last midnight to protest the killing of a civilian by police commandos.
According to official reports, markets, shops and business establishments remain close during the strike organised by Joint Action Committee (JAC). The attendance in government offices was below normal.
All transport services within Manipur and to neighbouring states were cancelled. Strike supporters blocked roads in the capital town and neighbouring areas, the reports said.
L Angouba, cousin of Manipur Education Minister L Jayenta Kumar, was killed on June 4 by police commandos. They alleged that Kumar was a sympathiser of militants.
