Stormy J&K Assembly session ends; CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed hails peace message
SRINAGAR: The eight-day long stormy session of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly ended today with Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed hailing the House for sending out a message of peace and communal harmony to entire country through a unanimous resolution passed yesterday.

"I congratulate the members of this House for sending a message (of peace and harmony) yesterday to not only the country but to the world that we have ended the atmosphere of hatred," Sayeed said just before the House was adjourned sine die.

The session was rocked by beef ban controversy and saw the unprecedented incident of an Independent MLA being thrashed by three BJP members for hosting a beef party.

The House yesterday unanimously passed a resolution moved by opposition National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and seconded by the Chief Minister, appealing people of the state to maintain peace and communal harmony.

"This session will be written in golden letters in the history for the message you sent from here," Sayeed told the legislators.

He said it was job of the opposition to point out the deficiencies in the government while the government was responsible for providing good governance.

"We represent the people of the state. It is the job of the opposition to oppose, depose and expose. We have a common goal. United we stand, divided we fall," he said.

Responding to a demand made by Congress MLA G M Saroori for two sittings of the House per day, Sayeed said former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had set a good precedent in this regard.

"I want a consensus in the House for having two sittings every day from next session so that the members can raise the issues of their people," he added.
