The Trinamool Congress has said the decision to instal Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's statue in the canopy that housed King George V's statue, in the vicinity of India Gate, was "an attempt to hide Bengal's tableau controversy."

Calling it "hypocrisy," senior Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy said, "it is an attempt to sweep the Netaji tableau controversy under the carpet. We are happy about the statues but protest the decision to reject the tableau."
