MUMBAI: Maharashtra government refused the distribution companies operating in Mumbai additional power from the state grid to supplement the shortage in the city. Currently, power companies in Mumbai like Tata Power and Reliance Energy draw around 100 mw of additional power from the state grid.

Maharashtra energy minister Dilip Valse-Patil said the electricity shortage in the state had forced its power distribution company, MahaVitaran, to resort to load shedding even at midnight to save around 2,000 mw. MahaVitaran MD Ajay Bhushan Pandey said on some days the demand-supply gap stretch to a whopping 6,700-6,800 mw.
