State government to construct rural roads on its own as Centre not sending funds: Mamata Banerjee

"If the Centre withholds funds, road constructions in the rural areas will not stop. Otherwise, people will not vote," Banerjee said in Durgapur today, while addressing an administrative meeting.

Banerjee has directed all government officials, including the District Magistartes and other senior officials, to expedite the pending government projects, with an eye towards the upcoming Panchayat polls in 2023.
Ahead of Panchayat polls in 2023, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that the state government will construct rural roads on its own as the Centre is not sending funds for rural roads.

"If the Centre withholds funds, road constructions in the rural areas will not stop. Otherwise, people will not vote," Banerjee said in Durgapur today, while addressing an administrative meeting, where District Magistartes, MLAs, ministers, Asansol-Durgapur Development authority chairman and other senior officials and representatives of various chambers of commerce were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, Banerjee has directed all government officials, including the District Magistartes and other senior officials, to expedite the pending government projects, with an eye towards the upcoming Panchayat polls in 2023.


West Bengal Chief minister expressed concern over MNREGA related 100days funds which she alleged has been withheld by the Centre. "We are trying hard to continue teh Bangla Awas Yojana with our limited resources." However, the Chief Minister has claimed on various forums that funds for MNREGA and PM Awas Yojana have been withheld by the Centre.

Banerjee said that she will travel to New Delhi to urge the Centre for funds related to the pending funds.
“The Centre has stopped the 100 days’ job-related funds and the poor are suffering. The money of the poor, who worked for it, cannot be stopped. Bangla Abash Yojana, the housing scheme’s money, was also stopped. I have sent a delegation of MPs. If the issue is not sorted, I will have to visit New Delhi and claim the money,” Banerjee said two days back

Regarding allegations that Trinamool has changed the name of the project from PM Awas Yojana to Bangla Abash Yojana, she said: “If the names of the project can be changed in Gujarat and UP, why not in Bengal?”
