State government not involved in Chaggan Bhujbal’s arrest: Devendra Fadnavis
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has slammed the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for claiming that the BJP-led Maharashtra government had orchestrated the arrest of former PWD Minister and senior NCP leader Chaggan Bhujbal in the money laundering and disproportionate assets case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday arrested Bhujbal after questioning him for 11 hours.

“The state government is not involved in the arrest of Bhujbal. The agencies (ED) did an investigation and after they got evidences, they took action in the case…,”said Fadnavis while replying to a debate in the state Assembly where Congress and NCP MLA’s raised the issue of Bhujbal’s arrest. “The claim that the arrest is part of a vindictive politics is baseless. Should agencies keep quiet if there are scams?”

Congress and NCP MLAs alleged that the arrest was a part of a pre-conceived plan of the BJP. Fadnavis, however, refuted it and called the Opposition charges an attempt to “pressurize” the agencies (ED) to go soft on Bhujbal.

“If there are scams happening then there would be action. It is a very unfortunate that when the state is seeing so much problems like drought, the Opposition has brought this issue in the House to pressurise the agencies.” the chief minister said.
