State government is a "mute spectator", says Assam Governor PB Acharya

MORIGAON: Criticizing the state government, the Assam Governor PB Acharya today termed it as a "mute spectator" to issues like corruption, continuous killing of rhinos and poor communication system in rural areas.

Acharya, who was on a two-day visit to Morigan district to take stock of the implementation of development schemes, told reporters here that there was corruption at various levels in the state.

"The state government is a mute spectator to issues like corruption, continuous killing of rhinos and poor communication system in rural Assam", he alleged.

The Governor further said that his concept of a developed or 'Bikasito' Assam was different from that of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

He criticized the methods adopted by the Tarun Gogoi-led government in implementing the different developmental schemes of the central government.

The Governor also expressed concern over the recent cases of teachers and farmers allegedly committing suicide in the state.

He also met senior government officials, representatives of more than 20 social organizations and discussed various local problems of the district.
