State assembly polls 2023 kick off; Tripura to vote on Feb 16, Nagaland and Meghalaya on February 27

Assembly polls will be held in Tripura on February 16 and in Nagaland and Meghalaya on February 27, with the counting of votes scheduled for March 2, the Election Commission has announced. A total of nine states are headed for elections in 2023, just ahead of the all-important Lok Sabha contest in 2024. While Tripura has a BJP government, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party is in power in Nagaland. The National People’s Party runs the government in Meghalaya. Here’s a look.
