Srinivasan permitting conflict of interest in legal proceedings: Lalit Modi's counsel
NEW DELHI: Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi's counsel Mehmood Abdi today accused beleaguered BCCI President N Srinivasan of "permitting conflict of interest" in the legal proceedings against his son-in-law and CSK Team Principal Gurunath Meiyappan, arrested on charges of betting in IPL.

"As such now Mr N Srinivasan is permitting conflict of interest to infect even the process of legal representation as the same set of lawyers are involved with BCCI, Gurunath Meiyappan and the India cements," Abdi said in a statement.

After ridiculing the BCCI's three-man inquiry commission to probe the betting charges against Srinivasan's son-in-law as a mere eyewash, Abdi called upon the Board to make public the mechanism by which the panel was selected.

"Who proposed the names of the hon'ble retired Madras High Court Judges? Were any other names of hon'ble retired judges from Madras High Court of another High Court suggested or considered? Whether the names of probable ex hon'ble judges were discussed at any representative forum of BCCI? Who approached the hon'ble judges for seeking their consent for taking the assignment?" Abdi asked.

"What is the term of reference of enquiry to this commission? Lastly but most importantly, if the findings of the police investigation and the BCCI in-house enquiry report are at variance what shall be the stand of BCCI with regard to the two different finding on the same issue?" Abdi asked.

Abdi is also the President of Shriganagnagar District Cricket Association in Rajasthan.
