Srinagar fortified over threat of militant attack

Security forces fortified Srinagar ahead of the second phase of election to local bodies on Wednesday following intelligence inputs that six militants were present in the city and might try to launch an attack during the polls.

The police also seized hundreds of two-wheelers in the past few days, suspecting that militants were moving around on motorcycles and scootys.
Security forces fortified Srinagar ahead of the second phase of election to local bodies on Wednesday following intelligence inputs that six militants were present in the city and might try to launch an attack during the polls.

“We now have an input that the six militants are now divided into three groups and are staying separately. Our worry is that there should be no incident on election days as it will create chaos in the whole system,” a police official told ETon condition of anonymity. Police and paramilitary forces conducted raids at a few places in and around the city, erected barricades on all major roads and carried out intense frisking.

The police also seized hundreds of two-wheelers in the past few days, suspecting that militants were moving around on motorcycles and scootys.
