Sri Lankan court extends remand of 14 Indian fishermen till July 17

A court in Sri Lanka today extended till July 17 the remand of 14 fishermen arrested on June 2 by the island nation's naval personnel.

RAMESWARAM, TAMIL NADU: A court in Sri Lanka today extended till July 17 the remand of 14 fishermen arrested on June 2 by the island nation's naval personnel on charges of illegal fishing.

Their three boats had also been seized. Fishermen's Association President S Emerit said they were lodged in a prison in Mannar after their arrest.

They were produced before a court in that city today and later taken to a prison in Vavuniya, he said.
