SRFTI students asked to vacate hostel, I&B Ministry informed
Students of prestigious Satyajit Roy Film and Television Institute were on Wednesday asked to vacate the hostel, a day after the authorities declared the institution's indefinite closure.

KOLKATA: Students of prestigious Satyajit Roy Film and Television Institute were on Wednesday asked to vacate the hostel, a day after the authorities declared the institution's indefinite closure when CITU-backed workers resisted the entry of a new group of security workers.
An SRFTI spokesman told PTI here that the authorities have sought 'immediate intervention' of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to remove the deadlock at the institute.
Trouble broke out last evening when CITU-backed Workers' Union resisted the entry of a new batch of security guards appointed by the security agency entrusted with the job.
The old batch allegedly jostled with the newly-appointed security guards, prompting the authorities to call police to restore order in the 10-year-old institute located on the south-eastern outskirts of the city.
The spokesman said the students had been asked to vacate the hostel in the interest of security till 'normalcy returns'.
''We have moved the I & B Ministry and sought its intervention to resolve the crisis'', he said, alleging ''many outsiders' had intruded the campus ''but the police remained silent spectators''.
The authorities asked for a new batch by the security agency after the existing group of securitymen pressed for a pay hike besides other related benefits with the support of CITU, he said.
The spokesman said the SRFTI was not concerned with the matter and it was the responsibility of the security agency to supply security guards.
