THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala government would constitute a special police team to investigate the alleged irregularities and corruption in the sanction of Rs.2000 crore loans by various co-operative banks during the previous UDF rule, Co-operation Minister G Sudhakaran told the Assembly.

'There was a nexus between senior officials and certain members in governing bodies of co-operative banks that led to this kind of corruption in the sector', he said while replying to a calling attention.

Legal steps would be taken, if necessary, by making amendments in the Co-operative Acts to recover the lost assets of co-operative financial institutions from the persons responsible for 'this criminal' offence, he said.

Already investigation was progressing in 60 cases connected with around 1000 co-operatives, he said.
