Special Task Force arrests three maoist activists in Kolkata

One of the arrested persons was closely associated with Maoist military strategist Koteswar Rao alias Kishenji who died in an encounter.

KOLKATA: The Special Task Force ( STF) on Wednesday arrested three Maoist activists from northern part of Kolkata. One of the arrested persons was closely associated with Maoist military strategist Koteswar Rao alias Kishenji who died in an encounter with joint forces at Burishole forest in West Midnapore last November.

Police sources said that Sushil Mandal alias Nilu, Abhishekh Mukherjee and Subhas Roy alias Samir were arrested from Tullah area in nroth Kolkata. Among the three, Abhishekh was Kishenji's close aide.

He had studied at Jadavpur University before joining the Left Wing Extremist (LWE) in 2008. He is a Maoist thinktank and also capable of using firearms. Recently, Abhishekh became a state committee member of the outlawed CPI (Maoist).

The arrest of three Maoist activists from the city indicates that many red ultras have taken shelter in the state capital and have been engaged in carrying out activities. Police sources also said that the arrest of these activists will help them to trace hideouts of their colleagues who have taken shelter in different pockets of the city.
