NEW DELHI: A special committee to suggest the welfare measures for domestic workers, headed by Deputy Speaker Bandana Kumari, today presented its report to Delhi Labour Minister Gopal Rai.

The committee, which had been constituted on June 16 on the occasion of World Domestic Workers Day, has recommended various measures for welfare and betterment of working conditions of domestic workers in Delhi.

The report says the city government should formulate a legislation for domestic workers which contains provisions on working conditions, wages, and punitive measures for defaulting employers.

Stressing on fixation of rates of wages, the committee in its report points out that rates of wages for domestic workers should be fixed as per the Minimum Wages Act.

Going into the specifics, the report also noted that the mode of payment should be only through bank accounts or Electronic Clearing Services ( ECS).

To make sure that the complaints of the domestic workers are addressed in a rightful manner, the report recommends relevant acts, rules and forums on the lines of Delhi Commission for Women and Child Welfare Committees.
