Special efforts to ensure tourism for all, says Mahesh Sharma

NEW DELHI: Stressing on the need to ensure tourism is made accessible to all and completely barrier free, Culture minister Mahesh Sharma said that special effort should be made towards this. The theme for 2016 World Tourism Day is: Tourism for All !! - “Promoting Universal Accessibility”

“Accessible Tourism for all is about the creation of environments that can cater for the needs of all of us, whether we are traveling or staying at home. May that be due to a disability, even temporary, families with small children, or the ageing population, at some point in our lives, sooner or later, we all benefit of universal accessibility in tourism”, Minister Mahesh Sharma said.

He was speaking after flagging off a Sightseeing Tour of the Monuments and Heritage places of Delhi for differently abled children on the occasion of World Tourism day 2016 here today. 35 differnetlt abled students from Class 2nd to 6th of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya School for Divyang Children in New Delhi participated in this Sightseeing Tour of many Monuments and Heritage places of Delhi.

World Tourism Day is celebrated on 27 September to foster awareness among the national & international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value. As the official day set aside in the United Nations Calendar the celebration seeks to highlight tourism's potential to contribute to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals, addressing some of the most pressing challenges society is faced with today.
