Special court grants time to Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy

A Delhi court granted Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy time till September 15 to file an appeal in the ongoing 2G trial.

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court granted Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy time till September 15 to file an appeal that seeks to make former finance minister P Chidambaram an accused in the ongoing 2G trial. Swamy, who had been allowed to submit his private complaint in the case, sought time from the CBI special court since the matter was pending in the Supreme Court.

"Since my application seeking CBI inquiry into the role of Chidambaram in 2G scam is pending before the Supreme Court, it would be in the interest of justice to wait for the apex court's order and then come here (to this court) with the plea to make him (Chidambaram) an accused in the case," Swamy told Special CBI Judge OP Saini on Friday. The court will hear the matter on September 15.

During a prior hearing, Swamy told the court that the probe by the CBI had not covered Chidambaram's role in the chargesheets. He claimed that Chidambram "jointly took important decisions" on allocation of radio waves. At the same time, he had asked the court to allow him to conduct his case himself.
