Speaker withdraws notice to 32 MPs

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee decided to withdraw notice to 32 MPs on Monday.

NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee decided to withdraw notice to 32 MPs on Monday.

Earlier on Monday, with the shadow of his action of referring the cases of 32 members to the Privileges Committee for their unruly behaviour looming large, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee had abruptly adjourned the Lok Sabha till 1400 hours.

"The House stands adjourned till 2:00 p.m.," announced Chatterjee soon after the Lok Sabha made obituary reference to Rajya Sabha member Nirmala Deshpande who died on Friday.

The controversy erupted after Somnath Chatterjee's had referred the names of 32 MPs, primarily from NDA, to the Privileges Committee for their "disorderly" conduct.

His decision followed disruptions by NDA members in the Lok Sabha over rising prices and in support of their demand for an explanation from the Prime Minister regarding the alleged preferential gas allocations to firms linked to Union minister T R Baalu.
